Yawn! West Texas is only slightly more interesting to ride across than the central part of Argentina. Endless straight road and is flat as flat gets. Coming from the Pacific Northwest I really cannot understand people's love affair with Texas. To each their own as they say.

It is remarkable that people in Texas are pleasant to a fault. Everyone that I have encountered over the last two days seemed to have nothing better to do than to chat with me. At one of my gas stops today I needed to buy a new charging cable for my phone. I ran into the convenience store and found one that would work. The young woman at the register said “Oh you don’t want this one hun. We have some that are much cheaper.” Before I knew it she had six or seven brightly colored cables on the counter in front of me. “This one is only four dollars!”

Sold!

Near the end of the day I reached Big Bend National Park. The landscape finally started to get interesting. Jagged mountains and rugged canyons seemed to spring up out of nowhere. I stopped at the ranger station to inquire about camping. I was dismayed to hear that all of the camping in the park must be prebooked online. SIX WEEKS IN ADVANCE! That is just wrong.

I found some fairly remote camping just outside of the the park which suited me just fine. Tomorrow I’ll head back into the park to do some exploring.

I don’t have much cell reception here so I won’t be able to upload my photos until later.
