Very brisk morning ride from Burns to Frenchglen (44ºF). I had to stop to get some coffee and get the feeling back in my fingertips. Then taking to the gravel I climbed to the top of Steens Mountain (something I've wanted to do for a long time). Totally worth it! The view was spectacular. Unfortunately, I was unable to do the full loop as I had planned due to a landslide but I went as far as I could and then rode back to Frenchglen. That part took about 3.5 hours. Once back on the highway the day warmed up to >80ª and I grabbed some lunch in Fields Oregon, chatting with several other overlanders who were exploring this area. From there I rode across the border into Nevada at Denio Junction and ended my day, camped along a creek in a beautiful grove of aspen trees, just south of Winnemucca Nevada.
