When you are an adventure rider this is the kind of day that you dream of. An epic ride up into the remote regions of Peruvian Andres.

It is also the kind of day that haunts your nightmares.

It was an epic. Taking almost 10 hours of riding to cover the 148 miles. We started at sea level and climbed to over 4200meters (13680 feet). The road was not particularly difficult to ride though it was more holes than pavement most of the way. There were long sections of mud and a few river crossings. The hard part was the constant abyss. The road was perilously narrow, edging along deadly drops. This was a day that you cannot make any mistakes. Complicating things, occasionally we would encounter an oncoming bus or heavy truck. Usually while negotiating a chewed up, steep hairpin turn. We just took it slow and steady all day.

The views were out of this world. Progressively becoming more mind blowing the higher we climbed. We rode through some very remote villages that were tucked tightly into creases in the mountainside. My pictures don’t really do it justice.

We pulled into the small town of Sihaus just as it was getting dark. We found a very basic hostel with parking for the bikes. Aaron and I were exhausted and hungry as we had to press all day with minimal stops for snacks and water.

I think we will both sleep good tonight.
