My feet are tired after walking over 12 miles around the city today. I got out early and walked about an hour to reach the Museo Nacional de Antropología (National Museum of Anthropology). It is the largest and most visited museum in Mexico. It contains many artifacts from Mexico's pre-Columbian heritage and the many cultures that have thrived here. It was a beautiful morning and I enjoyed seeing people out walking their dogs, exercising in the parks and enjoying breakfast in the many cafes. I was particularly impressed by the cleanliness of the city (at least the part I'm in which is the business and government district). There was very little trash, I only saw one man sleeping on the street and the parks were pristine. Along the large motorways there were huge colorful murals that stretched for miles. After the museum I stopped into a local taqueria and had some delicious beef tacos. Later in the afternoon I waked back down to the Zocalo to enjoy the many people in the parks and on the streets. There were many street performers and food vendors. Overall, I've been impressed. I think Mexico City is equal to any city I have visited in the US, Canada or Asia in the way of infrastructure, public transportation, and the arts. Though I'm not at all attracted (at all) to living in a megapolis, I think Mexico City looks very livable. AND I found people to be very friendly and personable. Especially the street cleaners who were dressed in safety-yellow jumpsuits pushing small carts. They sweep the streets and collect trash and most of them would give me a smile and friendly greeting as I passed by.
